Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Storya platform ("Storya," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by NEURALTREE PRIVATE LIMITED. By creating an account, purchasing tokens, or reading content on the platform, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who We Are

Storya is a mobile-first serialized fiction platform that lets readers purchase story chapters using airtime credit and lets authors distribute and earn from their work. The platform is operated by NEURALTREE PRIVATE LIMITED (email: team@storya.app).

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Token purchases via carrier billing require you to be the account holder of the associated phone number and at least the minimum age required by your mobile carrier (typically 18 years for MTN Nigeria). By using the platform, you confirm that you meet these requirements.

3. Account Registration

To access most features, you must register with a valid phone number or email address. You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your account credentials secure

  • All activity that occurs under your account

  • Providing accurate registration information

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or show signs of fraudulent activity.

4. Tokens and Payment

How tokens work. Storya uses a token system. Each token unlocks one chapter of a story. The first chapter of every story is always free.

Purchasing tokens. Tokens are purchased through the MTN Nigeria marketplace using airtime credit. All payment processing is handled by MTN and governed by MTN's own terms and conditions. Storya does not store or process credit card or bank account information.

Token pricing. Token prices are displayed in the MTN marketplace at the time of purchase. Prices may change; tokens you have already purchased are not affected by subsequent price changes.

Non-transferability. Tokens are tied to your account and cannot be transferred, gifted, sold, or exchanged for cash.

5. Refunds

General policy. All token purchases are final. Once tokens are deducted from your account to unlock a chapter, that transaction cannot be reversed.

Technical failures. If a technical failure on our end prevents you from accessing content you paid to unlock, contact us at team@storya.app. We will either restore access or credit your account with replacement tokens.

Carrier disputes. Billing disputes with your mobile carrier must be directed to MTN. Storya cannot issue refunds for carrier-side charges.

6. Author Revenue Share

Authors who publish on Storya receive 70% of gross token revenue generated by their content. Payments are made quarterly in Nigerian naira (NGN) to the payment method on file.

Authors must:

  • Accept the Author Agreement presented during onboarding

  • Provide valid payment details

  • Meet any Nigerian tax obligations applicable to their earnings

Storya reserves the right to withhold payment if an author's account is under active investigation for fraud, copyright infringement, or violation of these Terms.

7. Content You Submit

License grant. When you upload a story or other content to Storya, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content on the platform for as long as it remains published. You retain full ownership of your work.

Your representations. By uploading content, you confirm that:

  • You own or have obtained all necessary rights to the content

  • The content does not infringe any third party's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights

  • The content complies with Section 8 (Content Standards) below

Removal. You may remove your content from the platform at any time. Removal does not retroactively revoke access already unlocked by readers before the removal date.

8. Content Standards

Content published on Storya must not:

  • Infringe any intellectual property rights

  • Depict or describe sexual content involving minors (CSAM) — strictly prohibited and reported to the relevant authorities without exception

  • Constitute hate speech targeting any person or group on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability

  • Promote, glorify, or incite violence, terrorism, or any other illegal activity

  • Be defamatory, fraudulent, or deliberately misleading

  • Violate any applicable Nigerian or international law

We reserve the right to remove content that violates these standards without prior notice, and to permanently terminate accounts responsible for serious or repeated violations.

9. Intellectual Property

All platform software, design, trademarks, and non-author content — including the Storya name and logo — are owned by NEURALTREE PRIVATE LIMITED. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or commercially exploit any of these without our prior written permission.

10. Prohibited Conduct

You may not:

  • Share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of third parties without our authorization

  • Attempt to circumvent the token system or obtain content without payment

  • Scrape, crawl, or extract content from the platform by automated means

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the platform

  • Use the platform to distribute spam or unsolicited commercial communications

  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity

11. Service Availability

We aim to keep Storya available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. We may suspend the platform for scheduled maintenance, upgrades, or in response to security incidents. We are not liable for losses arising from service unavailability outside our reasonable control.

12. Disclaimers

The platform is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by applicable Nigerian law, Storya disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not endorse or verify user-submitted content and are not responsible for its accuracy, quality, or legality beyond our enforcement obligations under these Terms.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Nigerian law, Storya's total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the platform shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the total amount you paid for tokens in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) ₦5,000.

In no event shall Storya be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of revenue, data, or goodwill.

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless NEURALTREE PRIVATE LIMITED, its officers, directors, and employees from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the platform, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms shall first be addressed through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation does not resolve the dispute within 30 days, either party may refer the matter to the courts of competent jurisdiction in Mysore, Karnataka, India. To the extent that applicable mandatory law in your country of residence grants you broader consumer protections, those protections are not excluded by this clause.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on the platform or emailing the address associated with your account. Continued use of the platform after the effective date of any change constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
